PRESS PLAY

A playful reimagining of the iconic Sony TPS-L2 Walkman through a modern advertising lens. Originally released in 1979 and available only in blue, we introduced additional colourways and focused on highlighting the product’s timeless appeal with the sophistication of a high-end modern product launch campaign. If Sony were ever to reissue the TPS-L2, we hope this is how they’d do it.

CONCEPT

For this project, we explored a hypothetical reissue of the Sony TPS-L2 Walkman, developing the work as a speculative launch campaign.

The campaign narrative unfolds through a series of colour-led moments, each pairing a distinct Walkman colour with a broader facet of the music industry.

Red is expressed through an explosion of guitar picks, representing music at its point of creation. Green uses animated EQ bars to reference audio engineering and production. Pink introduces flowing audio cables, nodding to connectivity and the physical listening experience. Yellow uses gold elements to add a sense of spectacle, reflecting the cultural impact and glamour of the music industry. Blue returns to cassette tape and exposed magnetic ribbon, grounding the narrative in music’s final tangible format.

Through symbolic motion and form, the campaign positions the Sony TPS-L2 Walkman as a constant across the entire musical journey, framing it as a cultural staple refined for a new generation of music lovers.
